

The Class C Lineman plays a key role in constructing, maintaining, and repairing the electric system as part of the Decatur Utilities team. This position is responsible for performing energized secondary work on systems with voltages of 600 volts or less. As a Class C Lineman, the individual will work to uphold the highest safety standards and provide reliable utility services while maintaining excellent customer service. This role is critical to ensuring the continued delivery of essential electric services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
Primary Function:
The main purpose of the Class C Lineman is to assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric lines, ensuring the integrity and safety of the electrical infrastructure. The position involves both technical expertise and a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Install overhead and underground services for residential, commercial, and industrial customers in accordance with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) and construction standards.

Assist with the installation of overhead, underground distribution, and transmission lines as per NESC and industry standards.

Perform repairs on poles, street lights, security lights, and services (energized and non-energized), including climbing poles to make necessary repairs.

Operate, maintain, and clean hand and power tools and equipment used by line crews.

Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.

Stock and restock trucks with necessary supplies and equipment.

Interpret traffic control manuals for safe work practices as referenced by Decatur Utilities.

Complete all required training, including CPR/First Aid, Pole Top, and Bucket Truck Rescue.

Perform hands-on energized line work on 600 volts or less, following Decatur Utilities guidelines and safety protocols.

Perform general ground work involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electric utility lines, services, and facilities.

Ensure the safety and well-being of oneself and the team, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:

High School diploma or GED required.

Minimum of 2 years of related work experience and/or training in an Electric Utility environment.

Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (Class A).

CPR/First Aid certification.

Customer Relations Training.
-
Pole Top and Bucket Truck Rescue Qualification.

Completion of Utility Specified Training.
