

Sumter Utilities, Inc. is seeking experienced A Linemen for overhead crew positions. This role requires the successful candidate to have a valid Class A CDL and prior experience working as part of a construction crew. Preference will be given to candidates who can bring additional qualified individuals to form complete crews. Primary Function:
The A Lineman is responsible for performing energized line work, constructing and maintaining overhead electric utility systems, and ensuring the safety and reliability of power delivery to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The role also involves managing safety protocols, working with other crew members, and leading specific tasks in the absence of a Crew Foreman.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Perform physical labor including climbing, rigging, lifting, and rescue operations.

Identify primary and secondary voltage on circuits.
-
Proficiently perform energized line work and ensure safety compliance.

Lead the assembly and erection of structures to various heights in the absence of a Crew Foreman.

Safely execute hot line work on conductor systems.
-
Operate a range of heavy equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, and backhoes.

Climb poles and towers, working at heights and in confined spaces.

Lead Job Task Safety Analysis (JSA) meetings or tailgate briefings.

Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers and manage PPE cover-up procedures.

Understand grounding procedures, induced voltage, and flag/tag protocols.

Function effectively in a team environment and share knowledge with crew members.

Perform safety inspections of rubber goods, cover, and PPE.

Work in various weather conditions and perform tasks requiring physical endurance.

Maintain a positive professional demeanor when interacting with team members, the general public, and customer representatives.

Understand and adhere to all safety procedures, including minimum approach distance and proper work protocols.

Qualifications:
-
Must have a valid Class A CDL
-
Must have prior experience as part of a construction crew, with a focus on electrical work

High School diploma or equivalent required
-
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 75 pounds

Capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions, with exposure to outdoor hazards

Strong knowledge of energized line work, electrical safety, and utility construction

Ability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.)

Ability to plan and execute safe work based on job prints or work orders
-
Ability to work overtime and travel when required
