Job Summary:
This position involves providing highly skilled labor to install, repair, replace, and perform preventive maintenance on the University’s heat and hot water distribution systems. The Pipefitter/Steamfitter will work with various piping systems and components, including air separators, expansion tanks, valves, strainers, and traps.
Major Duties:

Install, repair, and maintain piping and devices for steam distribution, including related components such as valves, strainers, and traps.

Perform maintenance and repairs to underground pipes, pipes in vaults, steam tunnels, and concealed piping in walls, floors, and ceilings.

Bleed hydronic heating systems to remove air and correct water flow.

Work with other tradespeople to replace heat vent unit coils and heating elements.

Assist in updating building systems and drawing documentation.

Organize work to minimize material waste and manhours.

Instruct others on tool operation and preventive maintenance.

Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and safety regulations.

Completion of a registered apprenticeship or a minimum of 5 years of experience at the journeyperson level.

Documented welding experience in a commercial application.

Valid Michigan driver’s license.

Ability to complete a physical examination.
Desired Qualifications:
-
State of Michigan Plumber’s license.
Working Conditions:
-
The position requires working in confined spaces such as vaults and tunnels.
-
Must wear safety equipment including MIOSHA-approved safety shoes, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and respirators when required.
Schedule:
-
First (1st) shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
